Ruby Wing Gypsy

Hello my lovelies! It's Saturday and it's extremely hot outside so I'll probably spend the day lazying around the house. A day of leisure is nice every once in awhile, don't you think? I already did my nails last night and can't wait to show you the result on Monday but first I have a color changing polish to show you today. This is the first time I try a color changing polish that uses light instead of temperature to change color. I will be honest and say that I don't find it quite as fun as the other type. But let's take a look first.

Ruby Wing Gypsy indoors, artificial light

Ruby Wing Gypsy is a color changing polish that uses the Solaractive technology to change color depending on the light. It's a creme that looks more turquoise indoors and becomes more of a spring green outdoors. First off, let me tell you that my pictures exaggerate the color shift quite a bit. The indoor pictures came out more blue toned but in reality the polish is more of a green toned turquoise indoors.

The outdoor pictures are pretty accurate and they show the spring green that shows up when you leave the house. I have to apologize for the weird skin tone in the following pictures but my camera isn't very good with natural light.

The formula of this polish was quite difficult to work with. It's thick and and hard to manage, which results in streaks that don't really level out until you add top coat. The lasting power isn't great either. I'm not sure if the color changing pigments are harder to handle but I didn't like the formula of this polish at all.

All in all, I'm not a fan of this polish. The color shift isn't that spectacular and the formula is a letdown. I'm not even sure that I'm happy I got to try it out. At least now I know that I'm not a fan of polishes that change color in the sun. Let me know if you tried out any Ruby Wing polishes and what you thought about them. Have a great weekend!

  1. I have one of those and it does change color right before your eyes and is a bit fun to play with but it doesn't quite live up to my expectations and I was like "is that all?" The formula is super pigmented and it is a one coater so I put it in my stamping box to try for a stamping polish instead. (Which I haven't tried yet) I think that would be fun, a stamped design that changes color and gives you a new look from inside to outside.
