Models Own Swan and Banana Split

Hello my lovelies! I'm currently out of town for a conference but I decided to schedule a couple of posts in advance so I wouldn't be a bad blogger again. Today's post is about two lovely Models Own polishes. I have to admit that I'm not a big fan of this brand because their polishes are not 3free. I still get tempted sometimes though and these two came home to me in one of my latest Asos hauls. The first one I'm gonna show you is one of the speckled polishes that came out this spring. I already had access to a similar collection from Flormar, but none of the shades in that collection is as beautiful as this purple.

Swan from the Speckled Egg collection is a beautiful light purple crelly filled with tons of black glitter. These polishes are perfect for Easter so this was my Easter manicure. Can you believe it took me so long to show it to you? It's such a lovely shade!

I found the formula a little thick, which made application tricky. I used two coats for these swatches and added a top coat to make it extra shiny. It could have used a second coat of top coat just because the result was a little bumpy. I don't know if this is easy to remove because I used a peel off base coat to make removal a piece of cake.

The second shade I want to show you is a pastel yellow creme from the Fruit Pastel collection. Every once in a while I like to wear yellow on my nails, even though it doesn't happen very often. Light yellows like this are my favorites because they are more wearable than really bright yellows. Color wise, Banana Split is exactly between Illamasqua Load and China Glaze Lemon Fizz. It's supposed to smell like bananas but I didn't find the smell to be that strong. It completely disappeared after I covered it with top coat, which didn't bother me too much because I didn't really care about it.

I was very surprised by the formula of this polish. Yellows are usually hard to apply, yet I managed to get this one opaque in 2 careful coats. The Seche Vite also took care of any streaks, but I can assure you there weren't many. I added some subtle stamping to this using Konad White and a chick image from plate BM-302. It's very hard to see though, especially in pictures.

What do you think about these polishes? I really love them both and think they are some nice additions to my collection. I still wish Models Own polishes would have less chemicals. I would buy a lot more if that would happen.

Later edit: It seems that the Models Own polishes have been 3Free for a while now. I checked the website and the list of ingredients doesn't include the nasty ones. They do smell pretty bad though and that's why I was sure they were still full of the chemicals. I apologize for the confusion.

  2. Love the swatches, that yellow's lush! Pretty sure they've been 3-free for a while though, otherwise I definitely couldn't be using them :) xxx

  3. Very pretty! That first one reminds me of ice cream for some reason! Or maybe I'm just craving ice cream...

  5. Banana Split is such a cute yellow! I like that it's not too bright or dark. It's very mellow.

Asa de cateva ori pe an merge.

  11. Thank you for pointing that out to me! Swan has a pretty nasty smell and that's why I was sure they haven't changed the formula. I checked the list of ingredients on the website and they seem ok. I added a correction to the blog post.
