TPA Group Challenge: Cupcake Nails

Hello my lovelies! I hope you are all doing well! I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that it's supposed to start snowing here soon. On the one hand, I do like snow but on the other hand I still feel like I skipped summer, so I'm not feeling the winter holiday spirit at all. To cheer us up today I have some very colorful nails. I've skipped the TPA Challenge last week but I'm back this week with some cupcake nails. Feels like we're all about sweets here with lollipops first and now cupcakes. I wasn't very original for this one but here's what I came up with.

Let me just say from the start that this was the kind of manicure where everything that could go wrong did go wrong. As a base I used Sally Hansen Wet Cement from the Xtreme Wear line. If you know me, you know that I love a good gray polish and this one is nothing short of amazing. It's a bit darker compared to Sally Hansen Dorien Grey and has such a great formula that I almost got away with one coat. I did two in the end because I had a few bald spots to cover.

After I applied the base color, I started painting the bottom of the cupcakes with some nail art brushes and Flormar 423 and Kallos 54. They were both gloopy and extremely hard to work with, which resulted in some messy lines. Then I made the white frosting of the cupcake using Sation Strumming my Nails and a dotting tool. While it was still wet I added the little caviar beads as the sprinkles. Everything seemed fine until I started to top coat everything. Luckily I started with my thumb that doesn't show up in pictures because the color on the beads started to bleed terribly in the top coat. It really looked awful, so I didn't use top coat on the rest of my nails except for the bottom part of the cupcakes and took the pictures like this. They might not look as good in the photos as they would have looked with top coat but at least they look decent.

I've learned my lesson with these nails and I now know that I can't use top coat over these beads. It's such a shame because I've had them for a while and only recently started using them. I will probably go back to not using them at all now. Anyway, sorry for today's long ramble. If you made it this far you deserve a treat and you can get one by checking out the other cupcake nails by these girls:
