Hello my lovelies! It's Saturday, which is great because I'm very tired and was able to sleep in today. I spent yesterday's afternoon doing two nail art looks for the TPA Group Challenge. It's been ages since I've done some proper nail art, especially of the freehand kind, so I'm very excited to show you the first manicure today, even though I'm not even sure it looks like it's supposed to look. According to Wikipedia, ikat is a fabric dyeing technique that is similar to tie-dye. I must admit that I had no idea how to do this kind pattern on my nails, so I needed the help of my friend Google to get inspired. I used this tutorial and this picture as inspiration and this is the result.
My first intention was to cover the whole nail with the pattern and not show that much of the white background but after trying that on the thumb I decided it didn't look like ikat at all. I should have probably used a blue background to make these nails look better. I'm not even sure these look like ikat at all but I guess it's ok since ikat is such a random pattern. There aren't really any rules.
To create these nails I used polish and some thin nail art brushes. The white base is Sation Strumming My Nails and the colors are, from lightest to darkest: Essence Sure Azure, China Glaze Secret Peri-wink-le and p2 Ocean Lady. I'm sure these would have been a lot easier to do with acrylics but I don't have that many shades of acrylic paint. Plus I love all these polish shades, so it's nice to see them all in the same mani.
Please let me know in the comments what you think of this manicure. Does it look like ikat at all? I personally think that for a first attempt it's alright. If you wanna see what the other girls came up with for this challenge click on these links:
